The Bosses' Birthday!

So, the boss had a birthday! I was honored to create a treat for her desk to last into the next week! It was a beautiful fall mix just when the colors were beginning to turn: Mid-September. These flowers brightened the admin office of my school in a way that excited every parent passing by in anticipation of the changing season.

Classic Red Roses

The August wedding was spectacular! Small and simple but gorgeous. I was honored to make an all rose bouquet for this bride. To the right are 37 red roses with dew drop rhinestones. Just dazzling!

The boutonniere for the groom matched his bride...of course. What an elegant choice for Kristen to have chosen red to accompany the tan suits.

Here we have all four bouquets:

three bridesmaids bouquets used red roses and white freesia, and of course, the bride's bouquet. The variegated greenery takes something so elegantly formal and adds a twist of summer. It was a perfect addition to this "formal, somewhat informal" (as the bride put it so many months ago) outdoor August wedding.

All four bouquets were wrapped in silver
satin, an accent mirrored by their shoes
against jet black summer gowns.

I love this photo. It's nothing you haven't seen through the rest of the post but I love the detail that Meri captured in this close up.

It was beautiful!

Congrats to Anna and Dave from this past weekend! Making flowers for this wedding was a blast!

It was also a little reminiscent. For my own wedding I used sunflowers!

I don't have any personal shots yet but I loved what I was able to do to decorate the venue. These first shots capture the centerpieces. Anna's colors were yellow and blue. Thanks so much, Julie Faith Photography!

This Eiffel Tower arrangement stood by the entrance to the church. A second tower marked the entrance to the sanctuary. Yellow roses and blue delphinium are always a hit with me!

I agree that everyone needs a respectful way to honor their deceased loved ones. Not always just grandparents, this arrangement was created to honor several family and non-family members.

These wispy greens paired with white roses and lilies created a moment of awe in the guests and wedding party as they thought of loved ones not present.

And for my personally favorite creation! Anna chose to decorate her aisle by suspending bouquets from the aisle chairs. The ivory satin ribbon used to tie them on completed the look with exquisite taste while the use of Casablanca lilies, yellow roses, sunflowers, and delphinium (to name a few) created the perfect garden look she sought.
By the way, I tried to photograph this shot (and so did my husband) and only Julie could give justice to these arrangements. What elegance Julie! Thanks for capturing my work!

oops...Another Bout??

I forgot this one. I love this picture from this very beautiful wedding last fall. Simple green and white. Carnations and daisy button mums. Easy-Peasy. Classy-Sassy.

Is A Deposit Really Necessary???

I know that providing a deposit is a hassle for the customer. However, did you ever wonder what sending a deposit could possibly do in your favor? I have the answer. As a non-business woman and a customer, I questioned it a lot. But, here it is! The deposit (whether required or requested) does not only specify your commitment to a particular vendor for a service at a future event, but it also specifies that vendor's commitment to you, the client, upon acceptance of the deposit.
At It's YOUR Day your (requested) deposit acts as a protector of both parties. You know what it does for you: guarantees that we will provide flowers on YOUR day. Upon our acceptance of your deposit, our commitment to you is solidified with us; that we will be loyal you, the bride and groom, regardless of what arises in our personal life. Other weddings, graduations, birthday parties, needed relaxation, family conflict, mani-pedis, nor anything else will come between your wedding flowers and your wedding location, accompanied by top quality and punctuality.
Now, a deposit does NOT mean that all questions are answered and that changes are unacceptable, but that we have a mutual commitment to each other.
Simply put, if you like what we offer, you send the deposit. If we are unwilling or unavailable to provide for you, you will know it before you put it in the mail.

Out in the community

So, YOUR Day Flowers is moving beyond word of mouth. It's hard work to convince others that you have something to offer! But it's also been fun. Last weekend Clinton and I made posters with tear-off tags to hang around NC State campus. The common message boards had conveniently been cleared by campus maintenance so by the time we got there, It's YOUR Day signs were the only signs posted! It was also a beautiful day and we just had a fantastic time being together! We also tried to post at Meredith College but they maintain higher restrictions around solicitation. I'm just so grateful to God for such a wonderful husband that will go around with me to make a tedious task so pleasant!

This weekend we plan on "planting" flowers on car windsheilds with our business card attached! Sounds like fun to me! I know everyone hates when returning to a car with coupons or promos in place (always makes me feel like I've been ticketed!), but to take home a pretty flower is different. That's "nice" advertising! We've chosen to "car plant" at outdoor recreation sites. Lord knows, this area provides an overabundance of recreational facilities. Plus, Clinton and I will get to enjoy each other outdoors (some more) while striving to meet It's YOUR Day's goals.

I also forgot to post my favorite boutonniere. My dear husband wore this one and as simple as it is, I think it's just exquisite. And it was exactly what he wanted!

If you could join me in prayer: My prayer continues to be that this is God's design for me. I pray that He promotes in the community me, knowing that I can do nothing without His strength and His desire for my life. Trusting His guidance in my life is all I can do. So I pray to continuously place my trust in Him and honor Him in every part of this endeavor. Amidst my task oriented nature in such a large project, I need to continue to come to Him, fully trusting that He will provide.

Daffodils

My favorite flower

Smells like sunshine

Like a cup and saucer with a twist.

A star, a reminder of God's heaven above, His creation to be revered.

A trumpet shouting His praises.

Boldly sharing God's glory to all and

A reminder that every day is made anew.

With each spring we are yet one more year closer to His return.

I love daffodils :)

Then my husband bought me some!
Isn't he sweet??? Yeppers!

These are from my darling mother-in-law. At our last family dinner she brought me flowers, and just the way I like them...loose and ready for arranging!

I love how long daisies last. These were in excellent condition for more than the last 2 weeks!!!

A Baby Shower!

It's a fun thing when someone close to you has a baby. Until now I haven't had that experience. Yes, I've know ladies that have had children. My sister has 3 kids, plus I was a nanny for 2 years, and am actually still in childcare. But to have someone close to you that
you actually still live near...well, that's a different experience as the friend of a pregnant woman.

I have such a friend at the moment so I just recently had the joy of hosting my first baby shower! My boss (in the daycare/preschool I work in) allowed us to have an extended lunch hour on a teacher work-day so we went to a California style Mexican restaurant (Cafe Capistrano in the Carpenter Village area of Cary, NC) and all enjoyed a new restaurant that we don't ordinarily have lunch-time access to as a group. The food was delicious and they were wonderful hosts for our 20 member party! Needless to say, the shower was a success because my friend felt honored.

Plus, I got to make flowers for the event!!! Here are some pics!

Time for some more pics!

This wedding was in November 2009 and quite a success. I also decorated this bride's shower in October and have never received so many complements! A bit humbling....

This bride particularly loved the hint of pink to complement her green and white theme.

Yes, It's YOUR Day makes bows, too! Something I learned from my first floral job...It's a skill I love and comes in quite handy!

This very special mom just adored her white carnation against pink heather.

Each of the 14 table arrangements was unique. The bride chose white and green with pink accents and the groom said, "Whoa, what color do I get?" So, he and his bride decided a neutral brown would be his addition to the wedding color scheme. Everyone marveled the unique use of cinnamon sticks to add the groom's touch.

Wispy strands of heather complement the simple carnation in a very elegant manor. I call into question anyone that believes carnations are for funerals! Just elegant...

May 2009... What a beautiful day!

These photos are from my first wedding of last year. Check out the natural beauty between the outdoors and the sunflowers! This particular bride adores contrast so the deep purple of the dresses plus the bright yellow made HER day....and of course, so did her new hubby. Pink alstromeria, as a spash foreign to the rest of the decor, completed the look.

There is a plan!

As with any new endeavor, there needs to be a plan. I feel like sharing some of my plan with you. This all began with the quandary of how I will help provide for my children (once I have them)? Yes, I am quite happily married, but with recurrent economic fluctuation, I feel compelled to, at very least, contribute to our financial sustenance. The motivation behind It's YOUR Day was formed by realizing that I wanted to work 3-ish days/week out of my home doing something I love, something creative (not making phone calls or stuffing envelopes). Helping brides celebrate their most momentous occasion, yet not be "married" to a shop that required constant time away from home and family, in addition to the inability to travel for holidays, has been my dream.
In providing floral decor year round, yet within a limited market, I've decided to work out of my home, thus removing the overhead cost of space rental, utilities, shop upkeep, merchandise, and so much more. Many of you will say, "Finally! The wedding budget can relax a bit!" What great news!!! And finding a wholesale floral distributor helps me keep costs even lower to the bride!

Professionally, I do weddings because God honors marriage. It is a true celebratory event. What an honor to be able to help someone celebrate such a joyous occasion!

Personally, my greatest anticipation is to be working in "my flower room" while my baby(ies) are rolling around the playpen or napping. When the hubby comes home I'll have the ability to retreat once again (if necessary) to continue my true vocation.
In time, It's YOUR Day will have a more presentable portfolio that will lend brides to trust my unique, yet dazzling creation. That trust will create a sense of relaxation; in terms of their decor, they have nothing to fear.

I'd like to add that yes, while this is a glimpse my plan, it holds no significance if it is not the Lord's plan. As my life belongs to Him, I mean that all of my life, including my career and finances. I fully trust that He has equipped me for something that will bring Him glory and honor. Is it It's YOUR Day? Only time will tell.

Movin' On Up...

Welcome to It's YOUR Day's first blog. In making photography of our work available for viewing we are excited that you are with us. This blogger space will primarily be used for photos, but I will also be able to share the anticipation of upcoming events, the thrill of establishing a name among the event planning community, and any exciting public events that you may be invited to attend as my support or for just plain fun!
To you, my first readers, thank you! Many of you have obviously encouraged me by valuing my work, listening to my desires, and keeping me in your prayers for guidance and direction.

Now, let's check out some pics...courtesy of Julie Faith Photography
